5 (five ) components of physical fitness!
Physical fitness doesn't mean you have to have bulging muscles or ripped abs. Physical fitness means that you can effectively function at work, do your usual home activities, and handle extra stress that comes up.
There are five components of physical fitness.
1. Cardiorespiratory endurance...This is when the your body can deliver oxygen and vital nutrients effectively to your muscles and organs; as well as transporting waste material out from the cells. The two organs responsible for this are the heart and the lungs. The heart pumps the blood that contains the oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. At the same time, the heart also pumps out the depleted blood from the body. Whereas the lungs bring in the oxygen as you inhale and as you exhale, the lungs expel the carbon dioxide. This is why it is important to be cardio respiratory physically fit.
2. Muscular strength...Is the "greatest amount of force a muscle or" group of muscles "can exert in "one effort. For example would be weight lifting.
3.Muscular endurance...This is when your muscles can perform repeated movements for a prolonged period of time. Again for an example is weight lifting or running.
4. Flexability...Is the ability to be able to move your joints though out the complete "normal range of motion." Stretching is good for flexibility, for example is Yoga.
5. Body composition...the ratio of body fat to total body mass in your body. This also has bearing on the type of physical fitness need of an individual. What is needed by one body type may not be ideal for another.
Your body composition will greatly benefit from improving components one through three. Extra body fat decreases flexibility as well. Not to mention the extra padding will affect your health for example diabetes. And reflects about how you feel about your appearance.
It is important to remember that you need to address each of the five components of physical fitness together for the best impact on your health. For example, imagine being able to walk or jog to the grocery store but not being able to carry the groceries home. This is an example of being cardio respiratory fit and having great muscle endurance but not in muscular strength. Another example of this is going on hike on rugged terrain. You are fine on the level area but as soon as a hill comes up you start to have problems. You have a hard time making it up.
That is because going uphill involves the cardio respiratory and muscular strength as well as muscular endurance. The level part involves those three components but not at the level that going uphill requires. Or this is another good example of being physically fit in one area but not others. Taking the dog out for a walk, I know it sounds easy. If you can keep up with the dog in walking or jogging but as soon as good old Rover sees a cat and he decides to chase it, it is going to take a bit of strength to keep him back.
As you can see, all five components of physical fitness is required in day-to-day activities as well as in the exercise room.
